Darkest Night of Your Life 4K

Darkest Night of Your Life 4K

Bunker Hills Golf Club (map)

Friday, September 30, two waves 9:30 p.m. or 10:30 p.m.; participant chooses their wave

On any given night, there are 4,000 homeless youth in Minnesota and many of them are in the north metro suburbs including all of Anoka County. When the darkness of night sets in, these youth are staying in shelters, couch-hopping or sleeping on the streets. HOPE 4 Youth, a nonprofit that provides pathways to end youth homelessness, is raising awareness of the plight of these young people by bringing the community together for the "Darkest Night of Your Life 4K."

The 4K not only raises awareness of homeless youth in our community - participants experience the same feelings of being cold and hungry in the darkness - but also raises funds to help them leave their title of homelessness in the past.

Remember to fundraise! Get your smack-talking on and challenge other groups and/or individuals to see who will earn the title of Top Fundraiser.

Scenic Byway Half Marathon, Half Marathon Relay, 5K and Kids Run

Scenic Byway Half Marathon, Half Marathon Relay, 5K and Kids Run

The Annual Scenic Byway Half Marathon & 5K gets underway Saturday, October 1st, in an effort to continue supporting clean-up efforts of a 61 acre site on the banks of the Minnesota River Valley along the northern edge of Belle Plaine, Minnesota. The races start at Court Square Park in Belle Plaine and continues along the Minnesota River Valley Scenic Byway Loop.

Both the half marathon and 5K courses are USATF certified and chip-timed, making this race a great, competitive running opportunity among the peak-of-harvest beauty along the Minnesota River Valley. The Belle Plaine Chamber of Commerce is working with local and national businesses, as well as various governmental agencies on the MN River Valley Cleanup Project, which helped fund efforts to remove more than 1,200 tons of material from a contaminated, former salvage yard.

The race begins and ends at Court Square Park, which is home to the nation's only two-story outhouse. Following a course with moderately hilly stretches and mostly flat terrain, the Belle Plaine Scenic Byway Half Marathon takes runners on a circular loop of quiet country roads that encompasses the beautiful Minnesota River Valley Scenic Byway, a 287-mile stretch of River Valley in which Belle Plaine is the last stop.

**You can register online up to the time you arrive at the race site on a computer, smart phone or tablet, anywhere you have internet. Save time and lines on race day, register before you arrive! On line registration does not close! Race day all you will need to do is pick up your bib**

Race day registration and packet pick up will open at 7:30 am at the park.

About the School Of Environmental Studies

The mission of the School of Environmental Studies (http://sesmn.org) is to be a community of leaders learning to enhance the relationship between humans and their environments. Opened in 1995 as a unique partnership between Independent School District 196, the City of Apple Valley, and the State of Minnesota (Minnesota Zoo), SES is a response to the well-documented need to create smaller, more effective learning communities providing authentic learning experiences.

SES immerses its students in the study of environmental topics and issues working with and often alongside professionals in the field. Students graduate from SES knowing how to learn as well as what to learn and are well prepared for a lifetime of participation and education.

About the SES Education Foundation

Quicker than the Vicar & Little Lambs Mad Dash

St. Michael's Catholic Church (map)

Faster than the Pastor, A Journey to the Cross is a fresh and relevant community building, evangelization effort and health advocacy initiative, created to bring our diocese together in a way that celebrates and exalts our faith and proclaims the gospel.

Seven events hosted at 7 parish communities with 7 chances to win a TRIP FOR TWO to the Holy Land with Jeff Cavins in January 2018!  All event distances are based on various guiding scriptures - Philippians 3:14 is a 3.14 mile journey or 2 Timothy 4:7 is 4.7KM (2.98 mile journey). We are not USATF certified. We are GOD certified!

ALL abilities are welcome – beginners, walkers, runners, families and joggers. All finishing participants receive unique swag, custom medals, socks and an uplifting gracious atmosphere.

Each event is playfully named:
•    Done Before the Nun – Aug 2016
•    Ditch the Deacon – Sept 2016
•    Quicker than the Vicar – Nov 2016
•    Flyin by the Father – Feb 2017
•    Breeze by the Bishop – April 2017
•    Catch the Cardinal – June 2017
•    Pass the Pope – July 2017
There are two ways to register. You may register for the 7 event series -  Peter the Rock, or for each individual event as a Doubting Thomas.

In addition to these vibrant series events, several hosting sites include a very special Little Lambs Mad Dash for the smallest of participants aged 2-10.

Faster than the Pastor, A Journey to the Cross recognizes the financial expense of participating for entire families.  Therefor we have a family registration rate of $175, for a primary family of 4 or more (can be any combination of one of the events inside the series and Little Lambs Mad Dash events).  Family registration is only available in paper format and can be found at www.fasterthanthepastorevents.com - must be complete 2 weeks prior to selected event.

One objective of the event series is to build community, both here locally connecting parishes inside of our diocese as well as lifting our local community needs through coat, shoe, sock, food and other types of donations.  Finally each event will be supporting an international initiative of the parishes choice by selling goods (baskets from Uganda, Iron Crosses from Haiti, Purses from Tanzania etc) at the Spirit Shop inside each events athletes village, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the project.

Two weeks upon completion of the Faster than the Pastor, A Journey to the Cross event series will be a celebratory mass, followed by an Agape banquet where the Holy Land Trip winner will be announced.  If the winner is present at the banquet they will receive an additional $500 cash prize.

Finally, 10% of total net proceeds, generated by your entry fee are given back to the Archdiocese of Minneapolis / St Paul (restricted for Health and Wellbeing programs for Catholic schools) and 30% is equally shared between the 7 hosting parish sites.

This event series hopes to reframe the current state of our diocese as a vibrant collective Christian Catholic community, evangelizing and exalting our faith and honoring our body in a way that recognizes it as a Divine vessel.

Are you a Catholic business owner?  Do you have a profession that you as a Catholic would like to bring to our greater community?  Vigeo, Inc., parent company of Faster than the Pastor a Journey to the Cross, has a paralleled initiative called All Things Catholic Resource Guide.  Contributing to the a renewed growth of the Catholic church, bringing together the works of our hands and feet to support the excellence of individuals in business and in professional roles.  1 Corinthians 12:4-26. Faribault Middle School (map)

Are you ready to TROT?  For their good deed, Participants at the IRIS Turkey Trot are granted permission by our mascot "Trot" to have an extra serving of potatoes and a second piece of pie at their Thanksgiving meal. Come join us, help someone else, have some fun, see your friends, and feel good about Giving on Thanksgiving Day!

All proceeds from this race will benefit Infants Remembered In Silence, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to offering parents, families, friends and professionals support, education and resources on the death of a child. Funds will be used to provide bereavement support to families who have had a child die in early pregnancy (ectopic pregnancy, molar pregnancy, miscarriage, etc.) or from stillbirth, neo-natal death, birth defects, illness, accident, sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), and all other types of infants and early childhood death.

Everyone is encouraged participate in the Turkey Trot either by running, walking, volunteering, or donating!

Youbetcha! (that would be a "Yes" for you non-Minnesotans) - the IRIS Turkey Trot will be held if it's raining, cold, icky, snowing, sleeting, blowing, you know... if it's winter. Unless Anderson Race Management has to change it because of a "real" blizzard.
