Royal Gorge Cross Country (map)

Get ready! Ragnar Trail Tahoe - CA presented by Salomon is happening July 21-22, 2017 in a remote pocket of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range at Royal Gorge Cross Country Ski Resort, a destination that true locals know and rave about. Find your inner wild as you and 7 of your friends (or 3 of your crazier friends!) conquer three different pristine running trails. Run through old-growth pines, cross over streams, and test your limits along razorback ridge lines that overlook sweeping vistas and views of Lake Van Norden and the Ice Lakes. In your downtime, kick back and relax at Ragnar Village. Bond with new and old friends as you enjoy s'mores, music and billions of stars. Grab your friends and mark your calendar for an unforgettable adventure. We'll see you in Tahoe!

Royal Gorge and the Truckee Donner Land Trust: Royal Gorge opened in the 1970s and is America's largest Nordic Ski Resort. In 2012 the property went into foreclosure and the nearly 6,000 acres was purchased by the Truckee Donner Land Trust so that it will be forever protected. This purchase is considered one of the most important conservation victories for the Sierra region in a generation. The Land Trust's goal is to make the property as popular in summer as it is in the winter with trails for mountain bikers, hikers, and equestrians.

Ragnar Trail Tahoe-CA is part of the Ragnar Republic Double Medal Series. Run Ragnar Trail Tahoe-CA and at least one other California Ragnar in 2017: Reebok Ragnar So CalReebok Ragnar Napa Valley, and Ragnar Trail Los Coyotes-CA. Run two races to earn the Double Medal. Run a 3rd or 4th to capture the coveted Flair.

2017 Raksha 5K Walk/Run for Distraction Free Driving

2017 Raksha 5K Walk/Run for Distraction Free Driving

Purgatory Creek Recreation Area (map)

Raksha Bandhan is an Indian festival that commemorates a centuries old tradition in which a sister ties a ceremonial band on her brother’s wrist and prays for his protection and safety. The brother reciprocates with a pledge to be there for her whenever she needs him. A simple band therefore binds brothers and sisters in an inseparable bond. Much like this bond between brother and sister, we want to encourage a bond between drivers on the road; promising to drive distraction-free in order to protect each other and the community.

Ragnar Trail Rainier - WA Presented by Salomon

Crystal Mountain Ski Resort (map)

Ragnar Trail Relays presented by Salomon is heading back to the Evergreen State! Our new venue (which will replace Ragnar Trail Cascades), is located at Crystal Mountain, less than two hours from Seattle. Dubbed Ragnar Trail Rainier-WA, this race features views of mountain lakes, Mt. Rainier and fresh-scented evergreen trees. Grab your team of 8 runners (or ultra-team of 4 runners), and get ready for an unforgettable overnight trail running relay. Not sure how it works? Teams start Friday, and run relay-style, on three different trails, or “loops,” through the night, and into Saturday, until each member has completed all three loops. When you’re not running you’ll enjoy the party-vibe at Ragnar Village, roast s’mores, camp under billions of stars, sleep (maybe), and wait for your turn to run again, and again. Ragnar Trail Relays are like summer camp for adults, with lots of trail running, and no curfew. Mark your running calendar for Aug. 18 -19, we’ll see you at Crystal Mountain!

GRATITUDE

“The Lady” has been running since 2005! Given that I planned to do it just once, I think celebrating Lucky 13 with a theme of Gratitude is appropriate. Specifically, I am grateful for the myriad new and wonderful people in my life, the rich and varied experiences you have orchestrated, the inimitable feeling of witnessing courage and daring in motion. All the stories, all thesmiles, sweaty hugs, warm blessings, great laughs…and just knowing you have created your own amazing and incalculable personal difference. What you will never truly appreciate, is the difference you have launched in others by your bold action.

So, 2017 is the Lucky 13 Lady Gratitude Journey. (Much like the vaunted Gratitude Journal, only more about running shoes than pencil lead!) I will send out a monthly Gratitude Index…I invite you to send me any Running and Being (thank you Dr. Sheehan) specific gratitude’s you would like to share. Let’s celebrate a brand new year and number 13 with the Canyon.

Running On…

The Darkest Night 4K

The Darkest Night 4K

Bunker Hills Golf Club (map)

On any given night, there are more than 6,000 homeless youth in the State of Minnesota and many of them are right here in the north metro suburbs. When the darkness of night sets in, the young people are staying in shelters, couch-hopping or sleeping on the streets. HOPE 4 Youth, a nonprofit that provides pathways to end youth homelessness in the north metro Twin Cities, is raising awareness of the plight of the young people by bringing the community together for the second annual “The Darkest Night of Your Life 4K.”

Participants will experience many of the same things as homeless young people – darkness, loneliness, cold and quiet – while they run/walk the 4K “4” homeless youth, as well as raise funds for HOPE Place, HOPE 4 Youth’s new transitional housing program. HOPE Place is one of our long-term solutions to ending youth homelessness and we need your help to keep the doors open so that the homeless young people who call HOPE Place home can learn the skills necessary to become independent, self-sustaining adults.

*The first 1,000 participants to register will receive a swag bag provided by Target which include a water bottle, flashlight, shoelaces, energy bar, lip balm, icy hot, lotion, energy drink packets, sports towel, travel pillow and sweat bands.*
