INAUGURAL TROJAN TREK 5K RUN/WALK, 10K RUN, & 1 MILE FUN RUN

Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf (map)

The Trojan Trek is a fundrasier for the class of 2018. When deciding what fundraisers to do over the next two years, one of the first offered and decided upon was this race.  Why, you might ask yourselves, would a group of high school students work to set up a 5K instead of selling chocolates, candles, or other 'easier' fundraisers.  The answer is simple.  We look forward to a healthier future.  The class of 2018 has worked tirelessly over the course of the past few months to set up what we hope will become a continuing vision of health for our school and community by establishing the inaugural Trojan Trek.  This race represents our class values of movement, comradery, and sportsmanship as well as the desire to see everyone get out and do their best.  We sincerely hope you choose to join us in this quest.  Thank you!

THE BEST OF TEXAS, AND A LEGENDARY FINISH LINE

Giddy-up Ragnarians! Reebok Ragnar Luckenbach is the 200-ish mile overnight running relay that will put swagger in your two-step. Starting outside of Austin, Texas in the quaint town of Bastrop, you and your team of 12 (or ultra-team of 6 runners) will run relay-style through the scenic Lone Star State.

The finish line party will be held at the legendary music venue and dance hall, Luckenbach, where country music luminaries are known to drop in for intimate concerts. Not only is it the namesake for Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson’s hit song, but also an ideal spot to celebrate your 200-ish mile adventure.

For out-of-towners, we suggest trippin’ back to Austin with your team to stay-and-play for the weekend. This course will remind you why you’re proud to call Texas home: rolling hills, blue bonnet flowers, winding rural back roads that pass ranches and farm country, views of the Guadalupe River and the Texas Hill Country.

This race is how runners do Friday Night Lights! Stars, headlamps and lit-up vans illuminate the way as you run through the night and chase down the moon(shine). Before you hang up your cowboy hat, you and your team will enjoy live music, the sweet smell of bbq, food trucks and beer at the historic country music town of Luckenbach. No Texan is afraid of a good hard challenge, and on March 31st- April 1st, you’ll have a chance to find out what you’re truly made of.

Test yourself against area runners of all ages and ability levels. Enjoy the camaraderie of a mass finish (instead of the standard mass start). First held in Minneapolis on April 1, 1962, the Fred Kurz 10 Mile features a time-handicapped start. A runner’s starting time is based on a calculation of their anticipated pace, based on their results in recent races. Slower runners start first and, ideally, all runners finishing about 10:30. The goal: Catch the runner in front of you, but not too soon. At the Fred Kurz, everyone celebrates at the finish together.

The race starts and finishes at Wayzata Central Middle School, near the intersection of Vicksburg Lane North and Gleason Lake Road (East County Road 15). Course runs out and back five miles on the Luce Line Trail. Surface is mostly hard packed granular clay.

Sea Foam Stadium, Concordia University (map)

Join Prison Fellowship® for its Second Chances 5K Run/Walk! Come run for yourself, on behalf of a loved one or friend who needs a second chance, or to promote a more redemptive and just society for all.

America’s criminal justice system has exploded over the past 40 years, and today almost everyone knows someone who has served time. The many long-term, punitive effects of a criminal record—no matter how minor—can constitute a “second prison” of diminished opportunity. This second prison is a reality for more than 65 million people and costs the American economy more than $65 billion in lost economic output.

The Second Prison Project is a Prison Fellowship campaign to unlock second chances so that people can reach their God-given potential. We seek to expose and overcome of the stigma and restrictions facing people with a criminal record, challenge stereotypes of the formerly incarcerated, and restore hope for people who want to fully and freely contribute their gifts so their communities can flourish.

At the Second Chances 5K Run/Walk, the Twin Cities community will come together not just to run a race, but to be part of a national movement to fully restore those whose lives have been affected by crime and incarceration. This movement includes people still behind bars. Prison Fellowship is working with the Minnesota Department of Corrections to identify correctional facilities that will host 5Ks, where incarcerated people will be running for the second chance to be a productive citizen.

DON’T MISS OUT ON THE BEST WASATCH BACK EVER

Reebok Ragnar Wasatch Back is the race that started it all. This 200-ish mile overnight running relay begins in Northern Utah in the city of Logan and traverses across the back of Utah’s rough and tough Wasatch Mountains. Teams of 12 runners (or ultra-teams of 6 runners) tag team miles across three mountain passes, next to alpine lakes and past fields of wildflowers. When the sun sets, billions of stars, lit-up vans and glowsticks light the night. Teams finish together like champions at Solider Hollow, UT, the home of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. Learn for yourself why so many runners have Ragnar stickers on their car, or come back and do it bigger, better and faster than before.

Run Reebok Ragnar Wasatch Back and another Ragnar in the Rockies — Reebok Ragnar ColoradoRagnar Trail Zion-UT or Ragnar Trail Snowmass-CO — to receive the new Mountains Majesty double medal.

Reebok Ragnar Pennsylvania

Stauffer Park (map)

Reebok Ragnar Pennsylvania begins in the history-rich city of Lancaster, with its preserved architecture and old city charm. Teams will navigate rural roads and gentle rolling hills during this 200-ish mile overnight relay. As you chase the sun, you may start to wonder if you have traveled back in time as you pass horse-drawn buggies and hard working Amish folk tending their fields and creating homemade treasures. Runners will breathe in the clean, crisp country air as they run along a sea of corn and wheat fields in Pennsylvania’s Dutch country and farm communities. As the sun sinks below the horizon, stars will inspire a sense of wonder and help each runner find their inner wild. Runners will push north to the finish line in the Poconos Mountain resort area where the route weaves back and forth over the Schuylkill River and through the quaint town of Jim Thorpe. Don’t miss the chance to round up a team of 12 (or 6), and run across Eastern Pennsylvania’s most beautiful countryside.

The 10.5k follows the road around Lake Sakatah.  Just before the 4th mile the 10k goes off road for a ¼ mile before connecting you with the Sakatah Singing Hills State Trail and dive deep into the heart of the park finishing the last leg of your run surrounded by the beautiful green forest. This is a timed event.

The 11 mile bike ride follows the road around Lake Sakatah then continues east up a long steady hill for the first 7 miles.  Before looping back and connecting with the Sakatah Singing Hills State Trail. Helmets are required to ride in this event. This is not a race, official times will be given.

Awards will be given to the top 3 finishers for each race. Excluding the alternative 5k.

Gordon Memorial 5k/Family Fun Walk

Gordon Memorial 5k/Family Fun Walk

Warner Park (map)

Gordon Memorial 5k/Family Fun Walk is organized as part of our annual Good Neighbor Days Event. In 2014 one of our runners coined The Gordon Memorial 5K "small-town race with big-time heart!" The course is run exclusively by volunteers.

The 5k terrain is challenging and we do not recommend strollers. Please be aware some of the course is sand, some is gravel and some is blacktop. We offer 2 water stations throughout and bottled water at the end of the race. Some great features include plenty of parking, runner bag pickup is easy & quick with lots of cool stuff in them, online registration is incredibly convenient, the race is chip timed and runners registered before June 5th are guaranteed a shirt.  Last year shirts were sized a little large. We are going with similar shirts, however that is not a guarentee they will be sized the same.

Gordon Memorial Family Fun Walk.  Bring the Kids!  Bring the Strollers!  We are working on updating the course this year.  This walk is not timed.  Register BEFORE June 5th to be guaranteed a shirt!  We will kick off the 5k @ 8:05 as usual & we will kick off the Family fun walk at 8:15.

Gordon Good Neighbor Days has several events Including mud volleyball, duck races, world-class fireworks, Parade, 2 nights of "street" dances, flea market and more! Plenty of fun for the whole family! Visit www.goodneighbordays.wix.com/gordon for more information on all of our events!

GRATITUDE

“The Lady” has been running since 2005! Given that I planned to do it just once, I think celebrating Lucky 13 with a theme of Gratitude is appropriate. Specifically, I am grateful for the myriad new and wonderful people in my life, the rich and varied experiences you have orchestrated, the inimitable feeling of witnessing courage and daring in motion. All the stories, all thesmiles, sweaty hugs, warm blessings, great laughs…and just knowing you have created your own amazing and incalculable personal difference. What you will never truly appreciate, is the difference you have launched in others by your bold action.

So, 2017 is the Lucky 13 Lady Gratitude Journey. (Much like the vaunted Gratitude Journal, only more about running shoes than pencil lead!) I will send out a monthly Gratitude Index…I invite you to send me any Running and Being (thank you Dr. Sheehan) specific gratitude’s you would like to share. Let’s celebrate a brand new year and number 13 with the Canyon.

Running On…

Nine Mile County Forest (map)

Get ready Midwesters! Ragnar Trail Northwoods-WI presented by Salomon is coming your way in late September! Grab your team of 8 (or 4), and experience the magic of running a Ragnar Trail Relay! This new venue is located at Nine Mile Forest - nestled ten miles outside of Wisconsin's outdoor mecca, Wausau and within sight of Granite Peak Ski Area. Nine Mile Forest is known for cross-country ski trails but you may not realize that when the snow melts, miles of epic single-track running trails await you. Teams run relay style as they conquer the green, yellow, red loops over two days and one night. The course features fun, flowing, smooth, single-track trails that meander under a canopy of oak, pine and birch trees. When youre not running you'll enjoy camping on plush grass, and live entertainment, s'mores, bonfires and mingling with other runners at Ragnar Village.
