Join Prison Fellowship® for its Second Chances 5K Run/Walk! Come run for yourself, on behalf of a loved one or friend who needs a second chance, or to promote a more redemptive and just society for all.
America’s criminal justice system has exploded over the past 40 years, and today almost everyone knows someone who has served time. The many long-term, punitive effects of a criminal record—no matter how minor—can constitute a “second prison” of diminished opportunity. This second prison is a reality for more than 65 million people and costs the American economy more than $65 billion in lost economic output.
The Second Prison Project is a Prison Fellowship campaign to unlock second chances so that people can reach their God-given potential. We seek to expose and overcome of the stigma and restrictions facing people with a criminal record, challenge stereotypes of the formerly incarcerated, and restore hope for people who want to fully and freely contribute their gifts so their communities can flourish.
At the Second Chances 5K Run/Walk, the Twin Cities community will come together not just to run a race, but to be part of a national movement to fully restore those whose lives have been affected by crime and incarceration. This movement includes people still behind bars. Prison Fellowship is working with the Minnesota Department of Corrections to identify correctional facilities that will host 5Ks, where incarcerated people will be running for the second chance to be a productive citizen.
