Come join The Second Prison Project™ for its inaugural “Second Chances 5K Run/Walk!” Come run for a loved one, on your own behalf, or for a friend who is in need of a second chance.
America’s criminal justice system has exploded over the past 40 years and today almost everyone knows someone who has served time. The long-term punitive effects of having a criminal record—no matter how minor—can cripple meaningful opportunities for a second chance and becoming a “second prison.”
This “second prison” is a reality for over 65 million Americans and costs the American economy over $65 billion in economic output.
The Second Prison Project is a movement of people raising up a collective voice to expose the second prison in America and to promote the value of those with a criminal conviction through acts of service, advocacy, and leadership. It envisions a world with no second prison—a world where men and women are valued and freed to give back at their highest potential.
At the Second Chances 5K Run/Walk, the giveaways, rally, and excitement surrounding the Second Chances 5K Run/Walk will prove that it is not just a race, but a one-of-a-kind event that is part of a national movement. You might also be interested to know that The Second Prison Project has partnered with Shakopee and Lino Lakes Correctional facilities to host 5K events at the same time, where incarcerated people will be running for the second chance to be a productive citizen.
The Second Prison Project, Prison Fellowship, Concordia University, Minnesota Second Chance Coalition, and the Minnesota Department of Corrections are sponsors for these events.
